Like all the cities in this region, the history of Coppell reaches back into the 1800s, but the city was not actually incorporated until 1955. Compared to many of the towns nearby, Coppell is a bit smaller, but still a sizable community at around 40,000 residents.

Coppell boasts an extremely low unemployment rate -- under 3% in January 2003. Primary industries include transportation, utilities, and services, followed by manufacturing. Households here are well off with more than 80% bringing in $60,000 or more per year, and only 4% bringing in less than $30,000.

The city also has a fantastic community garden, where volunteer gardeners produce fresh, wholesome food that's donated to the local pantry for families in need. Since the garden's inception in 1998, more than 27,000 pounds of food have been donated through this community project. This is an example of the way the people of Coppell come together as a group.

The citizens are further committed, as a city, to reduce waste, prevent litter, and keep the city beautiful. There are a number of programs in place to achieve these goals, and their success helps ensure a high quality of life here.
