Named for famous author Washington Irving, this city was a small community at under 3000 residents just 50 years ago. By annexing nearby areas, it reached the minimum 5000 residents needed for a charter election, which passed by overwhelming numbers. Within 8 years, the community boomed to 45,000 residents. In 1971, the city passed a bond to finance Texas Stadium, which is home to the Dallas Cowbows even today. In 1974, doors opened to the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport -- one of the world's largest airports, located partially within Irving. The University of Dallas also finds a home here.

All of this has led to continued economic strength and population growth in the area, and today Irving stands at a mighty 200,000 in population -- large by any standards if you exclude the nation's biggest cities.

A number of major corporations work out of Irving, including Allstate Insurance, Citigroup, Microsoft, Nokia, Verizon, and Xerox.

With a city this large, plenty needs to be offered to the public, and plenty is. Irving has nearly 2000 acres of park area in more than 50 parks. It's got 6 public pools, 6 libraries, and 9 recreation centers. The Dallas Zoo is 20 minutes from central Irving, there are bike trails throughout, and there's even a farmers market.

Don't think that's enough? How about championship golf courses? Irving offers them, along with a world-class equestrian center and polo club. Fabulous shopping, amusement and water parks, and even the nation's largest motion picture studio between Florida and California!
